WCCF Audio Recording Procedures at CBC:

 

Sanctuary Podium:

          Position Podium at the center.  Check microphone connection.

 

Sanctuary Sound board:

          Key is kept in the front right hand side closet, which uses the Audio Room key.

          Move all slider down.  Mute all channels.  Turn on power.

          Podium microphone is on Channel 14.  Un-mute it.

          Slide Channel 14 to 1dB mark (Gray marking).

          On the right hand side, slide Audio Feed 1 to 1dB.

          Slide Master Volume to about 30dB.

          Go to podium, and say something in normal voices to check PA volume.

 

          CD is on Channel 1 & 2.  Play something appropriate before the service.

          Stop CD when pianist is ready.

 

 

Audio Room:

          Unlock Audio Room.

          Sound board should always be on.

          Slide all channels down.  The Green knob is the monitor volume.

          Sanctuary audio feed is on Channel 1.

          Slide Channel 1 to 1dB, Adjust Master Volume and Monitor volume to listen.

 

          Turn on Cassette Tape recorder.  Put in black master cassette on right hand side.

          Turn on Record Mode.  Set record mode to Continuous Loop.

          Adjust Record Sound Level.

          Turn off Record Mode.  Rewind and reset Counter.

          Turn on Record Mode, again.  Wait a few seconds. Hit PAUSE.

 

          When sermon begins, release Pause mode.

          Stop when sermon is finished. 

Take master copy to tape copier to make copy.

 

Black master copy is on the left.  White give-away is on the right.

Check copy mode to copy both AB side.  Hit start button. 

 


Procedure for making Digital Audio Recording using Olympus DS-40:

          Connect DS40 to Audio/Video Broadcast module using the 60dB cable.

          Turn on DS40.  Hit Record when service begins. 

          The recorded file will be in WMA format.

We’ll process later to select sermon for conversion to mp3.

When service is completed, hit stop button, and turn off DS40.

 

Transfer from DS40 WMA file to computer

On computer, plug in USB cable to connect DS40. 

Olympus DSS program should start automatically.  DS40 should come on too.

In DSS, open up File Folder A, all recorded files should be showing.

Look for the most recent file, e.g. ds40403.wma, which has today’s sermon.

On XP desktop, open up File Folder c:\...\WCCF_Audio\2007_sermons

Drag & drop the audio files ds40403.wma from DSS window to XP File folder.

The file transfer should start. 

IMPORTANT!!! When complete, use “Safely Remove Hardware”

to disconnect DS40 from computer.  DO NOT just unplug the DS40 USB cable.

          Close DSS program when done

          Rename the \2007_sermons\ds40403.wam to  Speaker_Name_2007_mmdd.wma

 

Convert WMA format to WAV format

Start WMA to WAV conversion program. (e.g. Free Mp3 WMA Converter)

Drag & drop Speaker_Name_2007_mmdd.wma from XP file folder to

Converter window.

Check “save in File’s Directory”.  Format is WAV.

Conversion setting is PCM 48KHz, 16bit, stereo.

Start convert

When done, verify the new wav file is in the 2007_sermons dir.

It should be approximately 10 times bigger than the wma file. 

Close WMA to WAV conversion program. (e.g. Free Mp3 WMA Converter)

 


Convert from WAV to MP3

          Start Audacity (latest version is 1.3 Beta Unicode)

          File -> Open, use Brows to find the WAV file

          When read in, verify Project Rate is 48KHz

          Track -> Stereo to Mono, to get a mono track

          Use Tool-bar tools to cut away extraneous recordings.

          Use Envelope tools to reduce overall maximum recording levels.

          Listen to sample portions for quality and completeness.

When ready, prepare to make mps3 conversion.

         

File -> Open Meta data Editor, to put comments in the mp3 file

                   Title, Speaker, Genre, Date, etc.

          Edit -> Preference, to verify MP3 export setting is at 16 (16 Kbps)

          File -> Export As -> MP3, to export WAV as MP3. 

Use Brows to select c:\...\WCCF_Audio\2007_sermons

          In the XP File Browser window, look for the new mp3 file.

          The new file is Speaker_Name_2007_mmdd.mp3, it should be 1/10th of WMA file.

          Listen to it to verify for quality and completeness.

          When satisfied, remove the WAV file, to save disk space.

 

Upload mp3 file to tapewccf.net

Set Web Browser to http://www.tapewccf.net/vdeck/ , Log in

host manager         ->      file manager           ->      public_html

                    wccf  ->      sermon        ->      2007 

Select upload, use brows to look for current mp3 file in local computer’s

WCCF_Audio\2007_Sermons\*.mp3

Upload this single mp3 files, up to ~18M

 

Use another browser session to test listen to the mp3 file.
